Queens Tunnel Petrography

Thin sections cut from rock mapped during excavation of the Queens Tunnel, 1996–99.

Where the mineral galleries show what could be collected from fault zones and cavities, these images show the rock itself — the fabric of the Queens Tunnel Complex, the deformation it has been through, and the mineral assemblages that record the conditions it formed under.

Sections are photographed in plane-polarised light and between crossed polarisers. Captions give the sample number and the principal minerals in view.
